Oregon Master of Public Health (OMPH) Program

Field Experience Opportunities

The Oregon MPH Program posts announcements it receives as a courtesy to our students.  All field experience opportunities should be checked with students' advisors to ensure appropriateness with courses of study.  This is for informational purposes only and does not represent and endorsement.

For more information on Field Experience (Internship/Organizational Experience) please go to the Field Experience Page.  Information is also found in the Student Handbooks.  Additionally, the OMPH Program Office has a comprehensive database that contains data on field experience sites utilized by students. The database contains information about field experience sites including: agency background information, contact information, specialty track(s) served, and the number of students placed each year. Students at all of the collaborative universities can request access to this database from the Program Office by contacting the Program Coordinator, Alison Schneiger at alison@oregonmph.org.

Field Placement opportunity at National Psoriasis Foundation

About the National Psoriasis Foundation
The National Psoriasis Foundation is the world's largest nonprofit patient advocacy organization dedicated to fighting psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and the voice for millions of Americans who are affected by these diseases. Our mission is to find a cure for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and to eliminate their devastating effects through research, advocacy and education. For more information, call the Psoriasis Foundation, headquartered in Portland, Ore., at 800.723.9166, or visit www.psoriasis.org<http://www.psoriasis.org/>.

About the Psoriasis One to One Program
The Psoriasis One to One program is a peer-to-peer mentoring program, launched in October 2009, that gives volunteer mentors the opportunity to provide support and encouragement to newly diagnosed patients. The Psoriasis Foundation is partnering with dermatology offices in 6 cities who identify and refer new patients to the program via a Psoriasis Action and Connection Kit. Only patients who give the Foundation written permission are contacted by a volunteer mentor.
Scope of field placement:
Program Evaluation [60%]
Evaluate the efficacy of the One to One program, based on several measures:

*         The satisfaction of dermatology practices - is the program set up in a way that is easy for them to refer patients, are the Kits an effective and easy way to talk to a new patient about the program, etc.

*         The satisfaction of volunteer mentors - do they feel they've received enough/quality training, do they feel effectively utilized, do they feel they can address the needs of their mentees, etc.

*         The satisfaction of patient mentees - was the Kit useful, was the One to One program effectively explained by the doctor's office, was contact by their mentor timely and appropriate, etc.
A plan for this evaluation was completed by MPH students in Winter, 2010.
Resource development [25%]
Develop training and supplemental resources for One to One mentors and mentees that help enhance their service and/or connection to the Psoriasis Foundation.
Training [15%]
Develop and assist in facilitation of supplemental trainings for One to One mentors that enhance their knowledge of the disease and/or organization.

Field placement timeframe and location
