  • Some students are having difficulty registering for PAH courses because of the addition of new prerequisites.  These prereq's are effective for students who were admitted in Fall 2011 or later, but the university information system applies them to all students.  If you are having trouble registering for any PAH courses for Spring, please contact Becky Fidler at rfidler@pdx.edu and she can assist you in the registration process.

  • Time change for Bill Lambert’s spring 2012 PHPM 518 Environmental Health. The new time will be 3:00-5:30pm on Tuesdays. For more information, click here.

  • Kenai woman connects tribal kids with education (Alaska Journal). Kenaitze Indian Tribe member Amber Huhndorf, 23, who received her public health degree from Oregon State University, works at the tribe’s health clinic. She said she always wanted to work with Alaska Natives. Her grandparents homesteaded in Nikiski during the 1950s. (see also Anchorage Daily News).

  • The American Public Health Association and several other organizations are undertaking an internet-based flu surveillance project and hosting a challenge with cash rewards. For more information and to register visit the Flu Near You website.

  • Three new Biostatistics courses will be offered this Winter term at OSU.  The course topics are Data Mining, Bayesian Biostatistics, and Linear Regression and Survival Analysis.  Further details can be found by clicking here.

  • The Graduate Certificate in Public Health (GCPH), offered through OHSU School of Nursing, is now accepting applications for admission Winter 2012 and Fall 2012.  The GCPH is offered online. Information about the GCPH can be found here.

  • ASPSU Student Body President Adam Rhamlow is leading a campaign to deal with the rising cost of tuition. In 2010 student debt averaged $25,520 according to Project Student Debt. As graduate students, our debt is likely to be significantly higher -- tuition has increased 70% in the past decade at Portland State. Graduate students pay twice the tuition that undergraduates pay, resulting estimated tuition increases hitting us harder than undergraduates. President Rhamlow is planning a protest in Salem in February 2012 in order to let legislators know that students are paying attention.
